We’re humbled by Jonathan’s defeat – PDP

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,
Alhaji Adamu Muazu, has admitted that the party was
humbled by the loss.
The defeat notwithstanding, Muazu, who is fondly
nicknamed ‘the Game Changer’ by his party faithful, has
assured Nigerians that the PDP will be reformed to meet the
expectations of its members and Nigerians.
According to the chairman, the ruling party has learnt
lessons from its defeat and will never again let Nigerians
down when it bounces back to power.
The chairman’s position was contained in a series of
tweets he posted on his twitter handle #AM, and
@Muazuaa
In one of the posts, Muazu said, “We are humbled by the
28th of March decision of many Nigerians and promise
never again let you down. We will reform our party.
“We have learnt some very useful lessons with the March
28th elections and we want to assure Nigerians you will
see a new PDP.
It will be recalled that the ruling party was defeated by
opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, on the March
28 elections, which have thrown up former military ruler,
Muhammadu Buhari, as the president-in-waiting and
majority of members in the Senate and House of
Representatives.
The development has halted calculations in the camp of the
PDP, which had boasted that it would rule Nigeria for at
least 60 years before ceding power to another party in the
country.
With the conceding of defeat by President Goodluck
Jonathan before the announcement of Buhari as the
president-elect last Wednesday, the president might has
foreclosed the idea of his party challenging the outcome of
the election, which most of the international observers
declared as credible and peaceful.
But the PDP has promised to return to the drawing board
and return in a more formidable way in 2019 to take over
from the APC.

Oronto Douglas is Dead

News just filtered in this morning that Mr Oronto Douglas, a
top presidential aide and confidant of President Goodluck
Jonathan, has died. Mr. Douglas died early this morning at
the State House Clinic, a close family source has revealed.
The source said Mr. Douglas died from cancer-related
complications.
Mr. Douglas came to national and international prominence
as an environmental activist on behalf of the oil-producing
communities of the Niger Delta. A lawyer by profession, the
deceased was born in 1966.
Oronto Douglas was Ken Saro-Wiwa's Lawyer during his
trial in 1995. He was a fighter and orator.
Mr. Douglas had been sick for several years. Even so,
associates of President Jonathan said he continued to work
over the last few weeks for Mr. Jonathan’s reelection, with
one source saying he was devastated when his principal
lost the presidential polls.
Mr. Douglas is survived by a wife and children.

Don’t leave any position for any other party, except APC – Buhari tells supporters

For the third time, the President elect, General Muhammadu
Buhari visited Bauchi State to thank the people of the state
for voting massively for the APC during the Presidential and
National Assembly election just as he canvassed for
support for the party candidates contesting in the Saturday
April 11 governorship and State House of Assembly
election in the state.
At the event at the Multi-purpose Hall was heavily
attended, with many APC supporters to cheer General
Buhari over his victory.
Among the personalities that accompanied the President-
elect are the National Chairman of APC John Oyegun,
former Chief of Army Staff, Abdulrahaman Dabasu, former
Military Governor of Kaduna state Col. Lawal Jafar Isa
amongst others.
Nigeria’s new president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has told
Bauchi residents that he was in the state to thank them for
fulfilling their promise they made by voting massively for
the APC during the just concluded presidential and national
Assembly election.
He said:” I want to thank the people of Bauchi state for
keeping to thier promise of voting massively for the APC in
the presidential and national Assembly election.
Indeed, you have proved your love and loyalty for the party.
I promise to return the gesture by bringing more
development in the state”
Buhari who was received by APC supporters in the state,
urged the people to replicate the same support they gave
the party during Presidential and National Assembly
election by voting massively for APC candidates in the April
11governorship and State House of Assembly election.
“Vote for APC all the way in the forth- coming election just
as you did in the Presidential and National Assembly
election. Don’t leave any position for any other party,
except APC”
General Buhari sympathized with those who lost their lives
while celebrating the victory of the party, and condoled the
affected families over their loss.

Sokoto governor’s elder brother kidnapped

Two days to the governorship elections, unknown gunmen
on Wednesday evening kidnapped a traditional title holder,
Alhaji Salihu Baraden Wamakko in Sokoto state.
Baraden Wamakko, is the elder brother to Governor Aliyu
Wamakko of Sokoto state.
Reports said that the gunmen stormed the farm of Alhaji
Wamakko in the evening from where he was taken away to
yet an unknown destination by his kidnappers.
However, the Sokoto state police command’s spokesman,
DSP Al-Mustapha Sani who confirmed the incidence said
the police had since despatched its men in search of the
kidnappers.
According to the PPRO” immediately we got the news, we
sent signals and mounted road blocks at strategic points in
and around the state capital while efforts are being made to
gather more information.”
Also confirming the incident to newsmen, Wamakkoo local
government council chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Kalambaina
said ” when the news got to us we were shocked and had to
contact the police immediately for their action.
” To my understanding, the kidnappers took advantage of
the election period to seek for money as ransom.
” You may recall that a similar thing happened in Zamfara
state where the village head in Bukkuyum was kidnapped
and a ransom of N10 million had to be paid to the
perpetrators to secure his release four days after.
” We hope and pray to get him back from the kidnappers
with the efforts of the police and the public,” he said.

Oba Akiolu Clarifies Remarks Against ibos Amidst Uproar

As audio, video recordings go viral, APC, Ambode suffer
social media backlash
Guber candidate: Igbos, non-indigenes have nothing to fear
in Lagos
Our Correspondents
There was an uproar in the country on Monday over the
threat made by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, warning
Igbo residents to vote for the candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Akinwunmi
Ambode, otherwise they would perish in the Lagos lagoon.
But even as the APC and Oba’s palace scrambled to
"clarify" his statement, which was published by several
print and online media (not only THISDAY), the audio and
video recordings of Akiolu’s hate speech to Igbo leaders
who had met with him at his palace Sunday had gone viral,
resulting in a social media backlash against the Oba, his
candidate, and the APC.
Akiolu’s clarification, signed by the Opeluwa of Lagos, Chief
Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, on behalf of the palace, said: “My
attention has been drawn to a publication in a national
newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged
to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for
Ambode.
“Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a
courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu. At the meeting the
visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and
cooperation with Igbos in Lagos.
“They assured him of their continued good neighbourliness
with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that will
further strengthen that harmony.
“Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable
performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to
the growth of investment in Lagos. He gave the assurance
that he was not disturbed or angry with South-east and
South- south votes for President Jonathan as perceived by
the Eze Ndigbos.
“The Oba thereafter called on the Igbo chiefs to show
appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate
Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier
promised.
“He assured them of his continued support and assistance
where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional
breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, bitter kola, and pouring
of libation on the ground.
“It was within this context that the tradition of Lagos with
regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever
works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-
existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per
tradition.”
The statement added that the Lagos traditional ruler stated
further that the Igbo people had not betrayed the throne,
saying, “Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people.
Lagos has done so much to make the Igbos comfortable
and to prosper.
“For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding.
The Oba of Lagos prays that the Lagoon and the throne will
continue to bless and protect all those who reside and visit
Lagos.
“Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion
or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional
proverb that relates to the Lagoon.
“The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the
need for unity and understanding when you do business in
an environment and in this case when you live and do
business in Lagos.
“Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and
prosperity for all its inhabitants.”
Also attempting to do some damage control was the APC
governorship candidate in Lagos State who restated his
commitment to lead a government of inclusion where every
Lagosian, irrespective of tribe or ethnicity, is carried along
in the quest to make Lagos greater.
He said this monday while receiving a donation of buses
from the Nigeria Progressive Ambassadors at an event held
at the APC party headquarters in Ogba, Lagos.
“Every group in Lagos is safe in my hands as governor. I
will not discriminate against any religious or ethnic group.
It is our Lagos and we must build it together,” Ambode
stated.
Speaking further, Ambode said: “In my acceptance speech
after the primaries, I made this note that I will be a governor
for all and Lagos is safe in my hands. I want to build on the
foundation of unity, peace and progress and development
laid by my predecessor.
“I am your best choice for a Lagos that must continue to
thrive. And though tongue and tribe may differ, we stand in
brotherhood in Lagos from the smallest ethnic groups to the
major ones. We are all stakeholders.”
However, in a sharp rebuke yesterday, the spokesman of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign
Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said the Oba’s
threat against the Igbos was “ominous and unacceptable”.
According to him, “The truth is that we (PDP supporters)
were threatened with ethnic cleansing and religious
carnage in the north had (Muhammadu) Buhari not won the
presidential election on March 28th and had President
(Goodluck) Jonathan not quickly conceded defeat.
“We let that go and kept the peace but now our traditional
supporters are being threatened in Lagos and in many other
states as we approach the April 11th governorship
elections.
“Let two things be clearly understood. In-as-much as we
all want peace in this country and in-as-much as Jonathan
has graciously and quickly conceded defeat in the
presidential election, this does not mean that we are weak
or powerless.
“Let it be clearly understood by all and sundry that any
attempt to kill, maim or molest our supporters in the north,
in the west or indeed in any other part of the country either
before, during or after Saturday's governorship elections or
any attempt at ethnic or religious cleansing by the APC,
their supporters or their friends and agents will be deemed
unacceptable and will be met with defiance, contempt and a
well-orchestrated and solid resistance.”
Fani-Kayode said the APC threats and attendant rubbish
that go with them must stop, adding: “No one is intimidated
on our side and neither do we fear for the future because
God is with us, He is faithful and He is in perfect control.
“This is an election and it is not a war so we must be
civilised, restrained, gentle and courteous in all our ways
and dealings.”
He reminded the APC that it won the presidential election
by only 2 million votes, meaning that the PDP has 12
million loyal foot soldiers and supporters in this country
and that was no mean feat.
“Those 12 million voters cannot be ignored or treated with
disdain and contempt. They must and will be respected,” he
stated.
He said that the PDP is a strong party, adding “We are
confident for the future, we are ready for anything and most
important of all we are ready for the polls on Saturday.
"We take this opportunity to urge the PDP faithful in Lagos
to go out and vote en masse for the PDP. We urge them to
vote for Jimi Agbaje and to free Lagos State from the
shackles of darkness and oppression. We urge them to
stand firm, to hold their heads up high and to do their very
best.”
Fani-Kayode also made the same pleas to PDP supporters
in Oyo, Rivers, Plateau, Imo and Kaduna States.
Similarly the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa
Metuh said it was indeed most “unfortunate that a royal
father of the status of the Oba of Lagos should attempt to
drag the revered traditional institution into partisan politics
to the level of threatening innocent Nigerians with the view
to prevent them from freely exercising their constitutionally
guaranteed right”.
He added: “Our response to the Oba of Lagos is that he
cannot play God and can never be God. God owns the
universe and every part of it and can never share His glory
with any human no matter how highly placed.
“We therefore call on all Nigerians in Lagos State: all Igbos,
Hausas, Yorubas and people of other tribes; all northerners
and southerners; all Christians and Muslims to turn against
this unpatriotic stance, by coming out en masse to vote for
the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje on Saturday.
“Undoubtedly, this anti-Nigeria position reminds one of the
2013 inhuman and callous arrest, detention and eventual
‘deportation’ of non-indigenes by the APC-led government
of Lagos State and confirms fears that the APC is indeed on
a mission to destroy our national unity, balkanise the nation
and obliterate the personal freedom Nigerians enjoy today.”
Metuh alleged that the APC had started terrorising
supporters of the PDP with vows to make life unbearable
for them when it eventually assumes power.
“Our investigation reveals that many of our prominent
supporters have been marked. The process has already
started with threats to the life, family and business of the
Chairman of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria
(TAN), Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah for supporting PDP candidates and
helping non-indigenes win some Lagos seats in the
National Assembly on the platform of the our great party.
“Indeed, if these threats on innocent Nigerians constitute
the picture or foretaste of the order of the day when the APC
finally assumes power at the centre, then the nation is in
serious danger.
“However, the PDP states in very unambiguous terms that
Nigerians would not accept such under any guise what so
ever.
“We therefore urge General Muhammadu Buhari as the
leader of the APC to call his members and supporters,
particularly in Lagos and Ekiti to order; especially bearing
in mind that it was the peaceful atmosphere and the level
playing field nurtured by the PDP-led administration that
created the room for his emergence at the presidential
polls,” he said.
On its part, the Igbo-bi-Nezi Congress, a socio-cultural
group in Lagos, expressed shock over the Oba’s threat
against the Igbos in the state.
In a statement signed by Chief Christopher Ihejirika,
Director General of the body, and Jonathan Agumadu,
Publicity Secretary, it said: “We at the Igbo-Bi-Nezi
Congress woke up this morning to read, with shock, in
nearly all the national dailies, a cowardly statement
credited to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, conveying
serious threats to Igbo voters who live and work in Lagos.
“We feel thoroughly disappointed that a highly placed
traditional ruler would be so misinformed and that he had to
permit so much hatred for our people and, also to his own
subjects.
“Akinwunmi Ambode and Jimi Agbaje are both Yorubas of
Lagos State origin who are seeking popular mandate for the
number one office in the state on the platforms of APC and
PDP.
“For the benefit of those who may not have read Oba
Akiolu’s rather unfortunate threats, which adorned the front
pages and early pages of some leading national dailies
today, April 6, 2015, the utterances as published, could
steer trouble, create bad blood, and promote anarchy in his
domain.”
The group condemned in its entirety, the statement made by
the Oba of Lagos against Ndigbo. It however called on all
Ndigbo to be “law abiding, go about their lawful duties and
businesses, vote their conscience, but remain eternally
vigilant”.
It further warned that the group would hold Oba Akiola
responsible for whatever untoward that happens to Ndigbo
in Lagos State, and called on the international community
to take note, including but not limited to the International
Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague.
Also, the Catholic Church yesterday cautioned the Oba of
Lagos against inflammatory comments against Igbos living
in Lagos over the forthcoming governorship election.
Reacting to the Oba’s threat, the Caritas Nigeria and
Justice Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic
Church said the comments were derogatory, particularly
coming from a royal father.
According to the church, “We are totally shocked to read
about the threat handed down by Oba Akiolu to the Igbos in
Lagos.”
The church questioned why the Oba singled out a particular
ethnic group for his outburst? “Does it mean a Yoruba or
Hausa person living in Lagos who votes for Jimi Agbaje
will go scot free but any Igbo who votes for Agbaje will
drown in the Lagoon?
“Does it mean that people should vote out of fear and not
their consciences? Would such an election be free and fair,
where people have to vote out of intimidation? Does not the
threat of the Oba Akiolu amount to voter intimidation?” it
asked.
The church called on the Oba to withdraw his curse and
rather appeal to the people, for indeed, “such a threat may
amount to playing God and God who is a merciful father
will not allow his children to die so senselessly just
because they were fulfilling the dictates of their
conscience”.
In another reaction, an Igbo group, Igbo Professionals
Lagos (IPL), described as unacceptable, regrettable and
unfortunate comments credited to the Oba of Lagos.
IPL, in a statement yesterday by its Convener, Mazi Chigo
Ukatah, said: “This insult on the Igbo is getting out of hand.
We're shocked to read the vituperations ascribed to an
ordinarily royal father who in the first instance should be
apolitical and a father to all.
“We’re further confounded that the Oba of Lagos, who
should know the meaning of democracy has gone above
board to declare what we consider should engulf the nation
in yet another civil war.
“Yourubas and Igbos have been living harmoniously
together but this callous, unguarded statement of a 'father
for all'' has shown the type of father he is.
“We state unequivocally, that the Igbos who are
industrious, law-abiding citizens of Lagos State will not
constitute nuisance to the law but would not be pushed to
the wall by anybody.”
Joining others to condemn the Oba’s threat against the
Igbos in Lagos were civil rights society groups and former
Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George,
who criticised the monarch for his unsavoury statement.
George said the traditional ruler owes the Igbo people an
apology, because with the esteemed position he occupies,
he should not have been partisan.
“I’m advising him to back down and apologise to the Igbos
in Lagos. Nobody can threaten them. This is uncalled for.
Let me assure all non-indigenes, especially the Igbos,
nobody can decree the day you will die. It is just an empty
threat.
“So I’m calling on the non-indigenes, particularly Igbos, to
come out en-mass and vote for the PDP in the April 11
governorship and state assembly elections,” George urged.
In the same vein, leaders of notable Yoruba socio-political
groups: the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr.
Yinka Odumakin; Razaq Oladosu (Oodua Democratic
Coalition); Segun Aka-Bashorun (Project Change Nigeria);
Kolawole Onifade (Oodua Nation in Diaspora); Francis
Abayomi (Yoruba Think-Tank); Makanjuola Muhammed
(Oodua Youth Congress); Ambassador Kunle Adeshokan
(Federation of Yoruba Consciousness and Culture); Alhaji
Tunde Abioye (Yoruba Soveriegn Defense Agenda); and
Kola Are of the United Self-determination Platform of
Oodua, all disagreed with the Oba’s astatement.
According to Odumakin, who addressed journalists at his
Otedola Estate office, “If he (Oba Akiolu) denies the
statement in which he was extensively quoted, it means the
reporter who wrote the story qualifies as the greatest
fabricator in the Guinness Book of Records. We doubt his
denials. We see it as damage control tactics.
“His actions and statements have been very crude,
indecent, un-royal and it is un-Yoruba in every way. We
are waiting for the media organisations that published the
story to stand by what they have published.” He urged all
Igbo residents in Lagos to vote according to the dictates of
their conscience.”
However, a Lagos-based tourism expert and an indigene of
Abia State, Mr. Charles Ukomadu, in another statement,
called on his kinsmen to ensure that they do not make
enemies with the political class in the state over frictions
that are traceable to politics.
“Very soon, politics will be over and we will continue our
businesses here in Lagos. So it is best that we are not seen
as a problem to any of the parties ahead of the elections.
“But I will also want us to remember that the APC, which
has been at the helms of affairs in Lagos has not been
discriminatory against our people,” he said.
Preceding the reaction by various groups, were the
comments on the social media where the Oba’s statement
generated a major backlash for him and the APC.
Expectedly, his remarks generated a huge controversy,
pitting Igbos against the Yorubas, with a majority
condemning the statement on the social media.
One Yemi Adebowale said: “Now that Oba Akiolu has
choose (sic) to play God over the people of Lagos state, he
has forgotten Pharaoh, Herod, Nebuchadnezzar, etc.
“I hope he will be ready to compete with God almighty
himself who has the power to make kings and dethrone
them too. This is a big disgrace from a monarch.”
One Uko Francis replied: “And on this note, I hereby call on
all Igbos, Ijaws, Ibibios, Aniomas, Igbirras, Tivs, Idomas,
Binis, and all non-haters of true democracy to vote for Jimi
Agbaje, so that we can truly show he is a bastard indeed.”
Taking offence at Uko’s choice of language, one Akomolafe
Akolade said: “Omo ale ni e o Francis (meaning you are a
bastard Francis). You are calling a first class Oba in
Nigeria a bastard? Highly disappointed in you no matter
how rational your sentences are.
“Can you call your father a bastard or has he been always
right in all of his decisions? Please refrain from comments
like this for your own sake.”
There were still some like Otito Dara who expressed
disbelief that a highly placed traditional ruler could have
made such a statement.
His comment read: “The Oba of Lagos could not have said
this, I don't think a highly revered Oba could have said this.
Yorubas are not ethnic haters and as such this report
should be dismissed.”
Another who simply identified himself as Shola Holdings
said: “We should thank him. He only helped Jimi Agbaje.
No true son of Lagos/Yoruba land will be happy with a
paramount ruler who stoops this low.”
Another commenter called the Masked One said: “The Oba
has unwittingly shot himself in the foot for I foresee a
protest vote against his candidate Ambode.
“His unguarded utterance only goes on to prove that there
is more to the contest for who owns Lagos than meets the
eye.
“Thank God the ICC chiefs are still in Nigeria and this
irresponsible outburst from Emperor Akiolu will not escape
their attention.”
Also, former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, in
her reaction to the “clarification” provided by the palace on
behalf of the Oba, said that the statement merely raised
more questions instead of clarifying issues.
“That rebuttal just released from the palace of the Oba of
Lagos does not persuade at all. That clarification rather
raises more questions.
“The Oba should personally calm all anxieties by speaking
openly and directly to this saga. His message is lost in
transmission for now.
“Shame on anyone responding based on ethnic/political
sentiments to beat down scrutiny of the Oba of Lagos saga.
We must be collective in values.
“Can the Palace officially provide clips of the meeting
between the Oba of Lagos and Ndi Igbo? Surely those
ubiquitous IT recordings of events can be found," she said.
Many others who shared her sentiments were also quite
vocal on the issue, pointing out that the Oba skirted around
the issue.

No tribe Discrimination - Ambode

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised not to
discriminate against any tribe if he is voted into office, a
statement on Monday said.
Ambode was quoted as saying this barely a day after the
Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, reportedly threatened the Igbo
voters in the state to either vote for Ambode on Saturday or
be drowned.
The APC candidate, while receiving 20 buses from a group,
Nigeria Progressive Ambassadors, in Lagos, said, “Every
group in Lagos is safe in my hands as governor. I will not
discriminate against any religious or ethnic group. It is our
Lagos and we must build it together.
“In my acceptance speech after the primaries I made this
note that I will be a governor for all and Lagos is safe in my
hands. I want to build on the foundation of unity, peace and
progress and development laid by my predecessors.
“I am your best choice for a Lagos that must continue to
thrive. And though tongue and tribe may differ we stand in
brotherhood in Lagos from the smallest ethnic groups to the
major ones. We are all stakeholders”.
General Secretary of the NPA, Miss Vuakpor Ojo, who spoke
for the group, said members were made up of young
persons who strongly believe in the future of Lagos and the
country as a whole.
Ojo said, “We are body of forward-thinking Nigerians who
are ready to partner with people who have the ability to
give an enabling future to this state and sustain its
excellence”.
“You are one of us, and these donation of 20 buses depicts
our commitment to the cause to make a detribalised leader
like you, who understands the cosmopolitan nature of
Lagos, govern the state starting May 29.”

Lagos’ll benefit from Ambode’s experience – ICAN

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has
expressed confidence in the leadership qualities of the All
Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode.
According to a statement, the President of ICAN, Mr. Chidi
Ajaegbu, was quoted as saying this at a lecture organised
by the Ikeja District of ICAN in Lagos.
“With 19 qualities of leadership and 16 signs of
professionalism acumen that this study makes us see in
Akinwunmi Ambode, it has proven beyond doubt that
accountants make the best leaders in the world. Lagos is
blessed to have him”, Ajaegbu said.
Ambode was the focal point of an academic research titled
‘The Effects of Leadership Quality On Public Expenditure
Management: Evidence From Lagos State Treasury Under
Akinwunmi Ambode As Accountant General’, which was
performed to decipher the skill-sets with which he
succeeded at shouldering the financial responsibility of the
nation’s largest economy for a period of six years.
According to Professor Kabiru Isa Dandago, who presented
the research paper at the forum, Ambode proved to be an
exemplary leader who has mastered the art of exercising
the principles of leadership along the lines of
accountability, transparency and prudence.
He recommended that, “ Lagosians should strive to exercise
their right to vote a professional that has exhibited concern
and care for them, long before showing interest in serving
as their chief accounting officer and chief security officer. A
vote for Mr. Ambode is clearly a vote for improving the lives
of the present generation of Lagosians and for laying solid
foundation for sustainable human well-being in Lagos State
and beyond.”
Ambode expressed his commitment at using his experience
and skills to make Lagos even greater, enumerating his
plans to create jobs, explore and expand the economy,
consolidate on security and cleanliness.
He reminded them of the limitless possibilities that an APC
government at the centre presents to Lagos State, saying
that, “What General Muhammadu Buhari brings to the table
is moral leadership, and with a commitment to deliver on
our promises here in Lagos, we are set for accelerated
growth and development”.
The President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
Alhaji Aderemi Bello, also shared in Ambode’s optimism in
the great advantage posed by an APC federal presence,
adding that Lagosians must vote for Ambode and the APC
candidates to make that vision achievable.

Invest in Equipment and Manpower - Alayaki tells Buhari

The Secretary General, Nigeria Medical Association, Dr.
Adewunmi Alayaki, has advised the president-elect, Maj.
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to invest in modern
equipment, training of doctors and to ensure constant
power supply in order to make Nigeria’s health care
delivery one of the best in the world.
Alayaki said this in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday in an
interview with our correspondent.
He said, “We believe the new government will be able to
give us a health sector that will attract even foreigners to
come here for their health care.
“The president -elect should look into the health of the
citizens to give them the best rather than going abroad for
treatment.
“He should give us the equipment, the manpower and the
energy that will run hospitals in the right direction.
“Nigeria is lagging behind in modern equipment. If you
travel out to most of these European and Asian countries,
you will see the type of equipment used which we believe
Nigerian government can procure for our hospitals so that
the common man can be assisted.”
Alayaki bemoaned the practice whereby Nigerian trained
doctors travel abroad and never stayed back in the country
to attend to health care needs of the people.
While he commended President Goodluck Jonathan for
allowing the vote of Nigerians to count, he, however,
maintained that the health sector in the country had really
gone down the drain and needed to be rescued urgently.
Alayaki urged Nigerians to forget the past and support the
president-elect as he assumed the mantle of office on May
29.
He said, “We should forget the past because every Nigerian
belongs to one party or the other but whenever there is a
change of government, let us give that government a
chance of its four years.
“I want to appeal to everybody that we should give the
government of the day the privilege to perform within the
four years and if it fails to perform, that same process that
was used to bring them in will be used to send them out.”

Bode George, Fani-Kayode, group slam Akiolu

The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Chief
Bode George, has berated the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu,
for allegedly threatening Igbo people to vote for the All
Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode, or face death.
George said this at a press conference in Lagos on
Wednesday which was attended by a former Minister of
Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; the PDP Chairman in
the state, Tunji Shelle; and other party leaders.
George said it was unfortunate that Akiolu had openly taken
sides with a political party. He urged the monarch to
relinquish his crown and go into partisan politics if he
could not remain neutral.
He said, “The Oba of Lagos is my friend but we belong to
different political parties. I was shell-shocked when I heard
the comments by my friend telling our Igbo brothers –
because they decided who to vote for PDP – that he would
curse them to run into the Lagos lagoon. By the grace of
God that will never happen.
“He said he owns Lagos. There is a need to draw a line
between who a kabiyesi is and who a governor is. The
kabiyesi is a traditional ruler and father of all. If he wants to
play politics like some of us, he should leave that throne,
come out and meet us on the field.
“We should not denigrate that office and use it as a
political platform to deride other parties.”
Also speaking, Ogunlewe said the PDP decided to give Igbo
House of Representatives and House of Assembly tickets
because the party had accepted them as Lagosians.
Ogunlewe said now that three non-indigenes have won
seats in the National Assembly, Igbo in Lagos would have
better representation. He, therefore, urged them not to be
threatened by Akiolu and come out to vote for Jimi Agbaje
on Saturday.
A PDP member, Mr. Oghene Egboh, who recently won the
Amuwo Odofin federal constituency election, said many
non-indigenes were being attacked by APC supporters
because of their support for the PDP.
In a separate statement, the Director of Media and Publicity
of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-
Kayode, described as unacceptable the alleged threat by
Akiolu.
Fani-Kayode, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday,
said many of President Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters in
the North received similar threats before the March 28
election.
He, however, urged the APC to call its supporters to order
as no party had a monopoly of violence.
He said, “The truth is that we were threatened with ethnic
cleansing and religious carnage in the North had Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari not won the presidential election on
March 28 and had President Goodluck Jonathan not quickly
conceded defeat.
“We let that go and kept the peace but now our traditional
supporters are being threatened in Lagos and in many other
states as we approach the April 11 governorship elections.
“Let it be clearly understood by all and sundry that any
attempt to kill, maim or molest our supporters will be
deemed unacceptable and will be met with defiance,
contempt and a well-orchestrated and solid resistance.”
He called on the non-indigenes in Lagos to ignore the
monarch and come out en masse to vote for Agbaje on
Saturday.
Also, the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria has called
on Akiolu to withdraw the curse he allegedly placed on Igbo
over Saturday’s governorship election in Lagos State.
The CCFN said the Lagos monarch’s utterances amounted
to threat and intimidation.
It said that it understood Akiolu’s fear of losing the city to
strangers but that Lagos has been one of the most
cosmopolitan cities in Africa for decades “and any citizen
contributing to its economy and politics can be a bonafide
resident.”
The CCFN, an organ of the Catholic Bishops Conference of
Nigeria, in a statement by its Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr.
Evaristus Bassey, condemned Akiolu’s comments, saying
the monarch missed the point because “Nigeria is a
republic and a democracy and not a monarchy.”
In his reaction, Akiolu denied saying Igbo who vote against
Ambode, will die in the lagoon.
Akiolu, in a statement by one of his white cap chiefs, Lateef
Aderibigbe Ajose, who is the Opeluwa of Lagos, said the
words of the monarch were taken out of context.
The statement read, “My attention has been drawn to a
publication in a national newspaper where Oba Riliwan
Akiolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to
make them vote for Ambode.
“Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a
courtesy call to Oba Akiolu. At the meeting the visitors
praised the oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation
with Igbo in Lagos. They assured him of their continued
good neighbourliness with other tribes in Lagos and support
everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.
“The oba thereafter called on the Igbo chiefs to show
appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate,
Mr. Ambode, for continuity of excellence as they had earlier
promised.”
The statement added that Akiolu said whoever works
against the interest of Lagos would end up in the lagoon in
line with tradition.
The statement added that the issue of ‘lagoon’ was
expressed in proverbial terms.

Keshi, NFF situation confusing - Chukwu

With the Nigeria Football Federation yet to come to terms
with Stephen Keshi over the vacant Super Eagles coaching
job, former Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu has
described the relationship between the NFF and Keshi as
‘confusing’.
And with both parties yet to come to terms over a new
contract, Chukwu says it is becoming difficult to describe
the situation, and also difficult to talk about.  “I think the
whole situation is confusing because I really don’t
understand what is going on there,” he told sl10.ng.
“Does it mean Keshi is now their boss, or is the NFF the
boss? Honestly I’m confused; I really don’t understand what
is going on.
“I have talked enough about this issue and I don’t think I
want to talk anymore about it,” he added.
Stephen Keshi, had through his agent, Emmanuel Ado
issued a statement last week that sought to dismiss any
suggestions he was having problems with the Glass House,
especially with the embattled president, Amaju Pinnick.
Even though it wasn’t stated in the statement – which has
now been famously described as Keshi’s ‘love letter’ to
Pinnick – it is believed Keshi’s camp is growing cold feet,
after his alleged major backer, Nigeria’s President,
Goodluck Jonathan lost his re-election bid.

Buhari’s election has shamed doomsayers — GOWON

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, said the
peaceful conduct of March 28 presidential poll won by Maj.-
Gen Muhammadu Buhari, has shamed doomsayers that
Nigeria would break up in 2015.
“No one will ever repeat that wild and arrogant prediction
that Nigeria will go under; those doomsayers have been
shamed and Nigeria will grow from strength to strength”,
Gowon told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Jos.
While recalling the prediction that the country would
disintegrate in 2015, Gowon declared that those that made
the prediction did not reckon with Nigeria’s ability to solve
its problems.
“The nation has always had the mechanism to tackle its
concerns and this election and its peaceful outcome have
proved that a united and focused nation would always
survive and move toward greatness”, he said.
The former Head of State expressed happiness that the polls
were adjudged free and fair by local and international
observers, and commended the patience and resilience of
the voters, who defied rain and the scorching to cast their
votes.
“During the elections, I visited polling units in Asokoro,
Karu, Nyanya, Maitama and Wuse; the people came early
and in many cases waited for INEC officials that came late. I
was touched by such commitment.
“I was also touched by the good spirit and camaraderie
amongst the voters as they waited to vote; I was also happy
that they were very friendly and did not allow their political
differences to tamper with the fact that they all had one
destiny”, he said.
Gowon also commended INEC officials, especially the NYSC
members, for insisting on doing the right thing, and urged
Nigerians to keep that spirit so that democratic governance
would come of age.
He specially praised President Goodluck Jonathan for
quickly calling to congratulate the winner, and described
that step a “very soothing balm that ended all fears and
anxieties.”
“The President’s gracious congratulation saved Nigeria
from violence. That good wish was very timely and saved
Nigeria’s democracy.
“There is no doubt that it set the tone for peace because the
situation would have been otherwise if he had remained
silent and allowed his supporters to interpret that silence
their own way.

OPC in crisis again

The crisis between Chief Gani Adams, National
Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC,  and some
members led by the estranged Publicity Secretary of the
congress, Mr. Sina Akinpelu, worsened yesterday as the
latter asked Adams to explain what happened to the alleged
mobilisation fee and his inability to garner  six million votes
that the embattled leader allegedly promised President
Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 election.
The faction within the OPC under the aegis of the National
Coordinating Council of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC,
in a statement signed by the spokesman of the council,
Adesina Akinpelu, said that one of the factors that led to
President Jonathan’s defeat in South West was his romance
with people like Gani Adams.
Akinpelu, who the faction loyal to Adams, had purportedly
suspended over allegations of working for the Peoples
Democratic Party, argued that as one of the founding fathers
of OPC, he had contributed in so many ways to the liberation
of the Yoruba race from the shackles of oppressors, and it
was based on this that he and some conscious members of
the congress challenged Adams’ decision for allegedly
sacrificing the Yoruba race for pecuniary gains.

Senate President David Mark begs APC, Saraki may emerge

With the release of the results of National Assembly
elections held last Saturday by the INEC, indications
have emerged that the South East Geo-Political Zone
may have lost the opportunity to produce the next
Senate President of Nigeria.
The Zone did not vote for any candidate of the APC in
the last election, thereby shutting out itself in the
reckoning for such a post.
From the results posted by the INEC, the South East
neither returned any of its APC senators nor voted for
any new candidate to emerge on the platform of
the APC.
Consequently, Senate President David Mark is said to
be begging APC to give him the position.
It was learnt that the non-availability of any ranking
APC Senator from the region to take the slot of Senate
President might compel APC to zone the slot to the
North Central, where David Mark hails from.
Mark would have emerged the best choice given his
rich background and experience, his membership of
the PDP, which will now be in the minority in the next
Senate, knocks him out of the reckoning for the post.
APC has won no fewer than 65 seats in the last NASS
election pushing PDP with 44 Senators to the second
position in the upper legislative chambers.
But there was unconfirmed report on Wednesday that
Mark was being pressured by political interests to
defect to the APC after the inauguration of the
National Assembly in order to retain his post.
But it is not possible for any Senator to decamp to any
other party until after being sworn in.
A source told Vanguard: “The truth of the matter is
that you cannot decamp to any party after election
until you are sworn in. It is not an issue now and I
don’t think that anybody should contemplate that at all
and even the opposition party will not even welcome
you.
No way for Mark — APC chieftain
But an APC chieftain has said that it was not possible
to concede the Senate Presidency to Benue State after
it had occupied the post for eight years through David
Mark.
The official said that there was no way APC would
accept Mark as its Senate President since there were
many qualified Senators from other states in the North
Central to occupy the post.
It was learnt that given the absence of any ranking
APC Senator from the South East or South South, the
APC would still retain the Senate Presidency in the
North Central but pick from another state.
Kwara State Senator, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is being
considered for the top post. But if APC keeps the post
in Benue, the Senate Minority Leader, George Akume,
is likely to emerge as the Senate President.

First Lady, VP Sambo’s office shut as officials shun Aso Rock

The victory of General Muhammadu Buhari was indeed a big
blow,We observed. As at the time of reporting, official
activities are yet to pick up in the Aso Rock Presidential
Villa, Abuja.
Hours after President Goodluck Jonathan was officially
defeated by Buharu in the keenly contested election, many
who work inside Aso Rock are yet to come to terms with the
reality that it is over.
The offices of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo
and First Lady Patience Jonathan have been under lock and
key since INEC announced Buhari as winner.
Although the president was in his office, most of the officials
were not seen around the State House.
The weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting did not
hold on Wednesday. Many of the aides of the president were
also nowhere to be found at the seat of power.
The few men sighted around earlier were the Comptroller-
General of Customs Dikko Inde Abdullah, Director-General
of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) Emeka Ezeh,
Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims
Commission John Kennedy Opara and the Special Adviser
to the President on Ethics and Values Sarah Jubril.

I am changing the notion actresses can't have happy marriages-Mercy Johnson

Mercy Johnson has opened up on why her marriage is
dispelling the myth that actresses do not make good
wives..In a recent interview with Leadership,she said
her secret is honesty and being down-to-earth despite
her fame
On the general notion that actresses do not make
good wives
Well, I can only speak from my own perspective
and when I say my perspective, I mean from my
personal experiences, marriage and relationship
with my husband. One of the biggest lies
anyone can tell himself/herself is using one or
more random experiences to judge and
stereotype others. We all have our different
stories to tell. I have two children for my
husband today and he has not stopped talking
about how down-to-earth I was yet I am an
actress; not just any actresses
I had a large following at that time yet I did not
go around pouting my lips or playing the snub.
My husband later confessed to me that for him,
it was love at first sight but that did not stop
him from asking me to cook for him the first
day I set foot in his house.
At first, I was stunned that a Nigerian man
was asking me to enter his kitchen to cook him
a meal. A part of me whispered to me that
perhaps, he was not aware of who I was and
when I said to him: ‘You must be joking. My
name is Mercy Johnson’. What shocked me even
more was his response when he said: ‘I know’.
Rather than take offence, I was drawn closer to
him.
We have been married since 2011 and we love
each other to bits till date and have consciously
decided to spend the rest of our lives together.
As I said earlier, I am an actress who is
correcting the rigid stand that actresses cannot
have happy homes when they get married. Also,
bear in mind that there are several Nigerian
actresses like me who are happily married.
Having a happy marriage is a choice a woman
has to make. When you decide to have a happy
marriage, you focus your thoughts, actions,
words, work and everything else around
protecting that happiness.
On the reason behind high divorce rate among
celebrities?
In marriage, you must have trust and you must
also have love. The moment you lose these two,
then it is just a matter of time before you
embark on a calamitous countdown towards the
end of your marriage. My relationship with my
husband has been very special. He is not just
my husband or father of my children. He is my
friend.
On the secrets of her marriage being stable
I don’t even have to think about it. It is
honesty. I remember the words of my pastor to
me even before we got married. He advised me
never to have a marriage built on lies and I
listened. I don’t lie to my husband. We have
agreed to tell the truth to each other regardless
of how painful or scary it might be. I remember
one instance when I found myself crying when I
had to tell him the truth. That day, I had
attended an event wearing a lovely dress that
had a slit but unfortunately, at that event, the
paparazzi captured a wrong image of me. I
picked up my phone and I don’t think I have to
tell you who I called first.
My husband, of course, and guess what? I was
crying and sobbing even before I started talking
to him because I felt really bad about it. Rather
than lie to him, I told him the complete truth
and it helped in no small measure. I remember
him asking how bad it was and I remember
telling him that it was really bad. I sent him the
photo and he consoled me. That is what a
husband who is also a friend does. He did not
rub it in my face, insult me, make me feel bad
or dent my self-esteem. He was there for me
when I needed him and he has not stopped till
date.
This is one of the reasons I do not hide anything
from him. He loves me just as passionately and
as fiercely as I love him and I have no doubt in
my mind that our marriage was ordained. God
had a hand in it and that is why everything just
works out between us. That is the only thing I
can consider the secret of our love story, which
continues to blossom. I have two children, an
amazing husband and millions of fans who have
held my back over the years and of course, God
who has watched over my affairs from the very
first day I arrived in this world till this moment.

Photo: Man Arrested For Shaving Woman’s Pubic Hair

A 35-year old man, Ibrahim Adamu is currently in police net
in Benin for allegedly shaving the pubic hair of a 25-year
old woman, Jumai Jasper, while sleeping in his room.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Samuel Adegbuyi, who
paraded Adamu and 27 others at the state police command
headquarters on Wednesday, said the suspect lured the
victim “into his room, shave her arm pit hair and her pubic
hair without her consent.”
Adamu, a resident of Aduwawa community in Benin who
hails from Funtua local government area of Katsina state,
confessed to shaving the woman’s pubic hair while
sleeping, but said that the woman was his girlfriend.
“I shaved the pubic hair of the woman because I wanted to
sleep with her, she is my girlfriend,” he said.
He however denied that he did it for ritual purposes, adding
that, he threw away the hair away afterwards.
Ibrahim added that when the woman woke up and
discovered that he had shaved off her hair, she demanded
the hair but when he could not produce it, she raised alarm
and the people around the place called the police who
arrested him immediately.
The police commissioner said investigation was still
ongoing into the case.

How Nigerian Man Died At James Bond-Themed S3x Party In UK

Edmund Echukwu, 35, a father of three based in United
Kingdom has died after drowning in a swimming pool at a
swingers’ party last Friday. Edmund was pulled from the
water at a James Bond-themed s3x party at a £3million
mansion in Radlett, Hertfordshire.
Fellow revellers tried to revive him but he was pronounced
dead at Watford General Hospital after emergency services
were called.
It is believed Mr Echukwu is a Nigerian from north London
who was at his first swingers’ party at the eight-bedroom
house, Dailymail reports.
Mr Echukwu’s neighbour in Edgware, Margaret Brown, 67,
has however paid tribute to him saying: ‘I’m devastated. He
was such a sweet guy. I remember I used to talk to him a lot
of the time.
‘He kept himself to himself, but he used to talk to me and
was very friendly. I think he was going through a difficult
time.
The Mansion
‘He was just such a gentle person. – I can’t believe this has
happened. Sometimes he would help me look after my
disabled husband.’
Mrs Brown said she believed Mr Echukwu was a care
worker.
She said she knew he had two sons from a previous
relationship, but didn’t see them very often.
The party was one of the regular swingers’ events put on by
retired management consultant Richard Stanley, 66, and his
partner Janet Harrison, 58.
The Pool
Mr Stanley said: ‘I heard a shout and ran over. I dived in
fully clothed, pausing only to take my iPhone out of my
pocket. He was enormously heavy.
‘Three of the guys pulled him out, with me pushing him from
behind. They put him straight into the CPR position and
tried to revive him. One of the guests was also a qualified
nurse’, he explained.
The couple who organized the party
A post mortem examination is due to be held today, after
which a coroner will open an inquest into his death.

Man creates spreadsheet of all the ladies he’s ever dated

Unlike many people who may have forgotten all about their
exes after many years, 40-year-old Michael has kept a
spreadsheet of all his sexual encounter since he was 17
Each entry includes a concise description of the act beside
the names.
Speaking to All Woman, he explains: “I do it to remember
what happened, with whom, as an ego boost, as a
comparison of each woman’s skills, and in the event that I
pick up a disease, I’ll know who it came from and who
should get checked.”
When asked about his perception of his behaviour, Michael
said he sees it as ‘quite normal’ and in fact very responsible
of him to keep track of his encounters.
Michael is not the only one keeping a sex list; Jason , 25,
says with each name he writes, his pride and ego are lifted.
“When I reached number 50 I had this very huge sense of
accomplishment and now I’m focused on getting to the
100th woman,” he said.
Jason also added that the list serves as a reminder of where
he’s been, where he should never return, and each
experience teaches him different tricks and trades in the
book of love.
Addressing the issue, Dr. Alverston Bailey, family physician
and author of Sexplanations: A guide to discussing Sex &
Sexuality in the Caribbean , said most Jamaicans , especially
women, are conservative and secretive when it comes to
their sexual lives and the issue of journalising your sex
journey as a man is very uncommon.
“Women are far more likely to keep a diary of those
personal events, men rarely ever do that,” he said.
He added that as a matter of fact, a lot of men falsely
increase their actual numbers, and a sex list, which is an
accomplishment in their case, may serve as a form of
validation for a man’s prowess.
“Oftentimes men are driven to have more than one sexual
partner because to be admired by many women, many men
think it validates their masculinity and makes them feel
special and that they are needed and desired,” he said.
However, according to Dr. Bailey, beyond all that is the
possibility of these men having psychological issues, which
include borderline personality disorder.
“It is often men with low self-esteem that need to be
validated by women. It often suggests an individual with a
borderline personality disorder and in fact may be
hypersexuality, which could be due to upbringing and a
desperate attempt to achieve love.”
He added that a lot of these men may not like women, but
might be having sex merely as an expression of power.
“It might be that he is obsessed with the need to control or
dominate women or use them as a sport or game, where the
more virgins he deflowers or the more hearts he breaks, the
greater he feels,” Dr Bailey said.
“The individual might also be suffering from sexual
addiction. A sexual addict finds it very difficult to get
gratification from any sexual partner and the person does
not really enjoy sex. He or she is trying to find love and
moves from flower to flower, trying to achieve gratification,
and even though he’s looking for love he is unable to give
love because of his upbringing and socialisation.”

Ex-wife chops off husband’s p*nis so he could not marry another woman

A Chinese woman, Fu Shih, has been arrested for chopping
off her ex-husband’s penis so that he could not marry
another woman.
According to Mirror, the victim, Hong Shih, had agreed to
meet with his ex-wife to discuss the couple’s three children
and a possible reconciliation but after he told her that he
had no desire of getting back together due to the many
problems the couple had, Fu allegedly attacked him and in
the process, chopped off his manhood.
“I was just wearing loose fitting jogging trousers, and I
heard her come up behind me and was shocked when she
suddenly pulled down my trousers.
I turned around and went to pull up my trousers when she
leaned forward and before I even knew what she was doing,
sliced off my penis.
She told me that she didn’t want to see me with somebody
else and said ‘if I can’t have you, nobody will’.”
Even though the wound was severe, Hong ran to a hospital
approximately 800 meters down the road while carrying his
detached penis in his hand where doctors rushed him into
surgery and were able to reattach the penis following a
lengthy procedure.
Fu, the ex-wife, actually went to the hospital to visit Hong.
Afterward, she turned herself over to police.

You are free to leave Nigeria now –Tinubu replies Bode George

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC,
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replied PDP chieftian, Olabode
George on his threat to relocate from the country following
the emergence of Gen. Buhari as the President-elect of the
country.
Before the general election, George had vowed to leave the
country should Tinubu and his APC team assume power.
The retired naval officer told Vanguard after Buhari was
declared president-elect by the INEC boss that he can’t be
ruled by APC.
Hear him, “What will I be doing here? I can decide to go and
live anywhere. Look at everyone surrounding him (Buhari).
”So, I am not joking about it, what will I be doing here? At
70, what will I be doing here? All we have been doing to
restructure the country has been lost. We have been trying
to ensure balance in the polity but all that has gone. What
else will I be doing here?”
Responding to Bode’s threat, Tinubu asked him to be fast
with his decision, saying that he doesn’t care if he chose to
relocate to the mountain.
He said, “He can decide to go now if he wants. Who cares?
He had relocated temporarily before and came back. So it is
not a new thing. If he likes, let him relocate to Bayelsa or
Rivers, who cares. I my self will relocate very soon.

Native Doctor arrested for kidnapping lovers for ritual purposes

A native doctor, Akeem Adeniyi, is currently telling the
operatives of the Kwara State Police Command all he knows
about the alleged kidnapping of his two lovers, identified as
Bose and Busayo, with a view to using them for money
ritual.
According to a statement emanating from the command,
Adeniyi connived with one Biodun Yusuf and one Raphael
who is on the run, to abduct the victims.
It was learnt that Adeniyi and Yusuf were apprehended after
residents of the Alla-Isin area of the state heard somebody
screaming for help in Alla Grammar School at about 11pm
on March 11 and rushed to the scene.
The residents were shocked to see a Sienna Space Wagon
bus and the herbalist who reportedly told them that the one
of the ladies with him, Busayo, was his girlfriend and he was
only trying to forcefully have sex with her when she
screamed.
The police also said Adeniyi and his friends were also
responsible for the abduction of Bose, who was declared
missing on March 19 by her father.
The herbalist, who claimed the tow ladies were his
girlfriends, reportedly led security operatives to their
hideout where they were rescued alive.

Female Presidential Candidate, Remi Sonaiya Releases Post-Election Statement

Remi Sonaiya was born on March 2nd, 1955. She began
her schooling in 1961 at St. Luke’s Demonstration
School, Ibadan, from where she proceeded to St. Anne’s
School, also in Ibadan, for her secondary education.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in French from the
University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in
1977, graduating with the best result in her faculty, did
her Youth Service at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria,
got married, and proceeded to Cornell University, USA,
from where she obtained an M. A. in French Literature.
Back in Nigeria, she enrolled for another Masters degree
program, this time in Linguistics, which she obtained in
1984, and immediately returned to Cornell University for
her PhD studies in Linguistics. She graduated from
Cornell in 1988 and returned to continue lecturing in the
Department of Foreign Languages of the Obafemi
Awolowo University which she had joined in 1982 as an
Assistant Lecturer. She became a professor of French
Language and Applied Linguistics in 2001.
After the just concluded presidential elections of which
she was an aspirant, she came third in the race won by
Muhammadu Buhari. She released her post-election
statement. Read it below.
My fellow Nigerians,
Roughly four months ago, I signified my intention to
represent KOWA Party at the presidential elections. I was
involved in a primary with three other aspirants and
emerged our Party’s nominee. The period between then
and now has been challenging, revealing and deeply
rewarding. Understandably, given our political culture,
we were met from some quarters with cynicism from the
very beginning, ours being a relatively new party with
little funding and no known heavyweights. At the same
time, many Nigerians saw in our audacious candidacy the
possibility of real change and a clear departure from what
we have known so far as a nation.
I am proud of what we have achieved over this very short
period. KOWA is now known not only across Nigeria but
also by many people in the international space. We
performed far above what we were expected to in every
state of the Federation, and enquiries have been pouring
in from many interested and inspired individuals across
the nation, asking how they can join our party and help
spread its ideals. (Kindly visit www.kowaparty.net .)
This experience has made me, now more than ever,
convinced of the need for a value re-orientation in our
country. As a society we appear to celebrate people who
represent the ills we complain about, or are prepared to
look the other way when they offer us temporary
palliatives. This has to change, and I hope to work with
my Party to continue to spread this message without
which our hope of building a just and prosperous nation
will forever remain a mirage.
I am also convinced that there is a quiet majority out
there who see the truth in our message that only a leader
with strong values and an independent mind can give us
the change we need. As such, I intend to spend the
coming years working with other members to grow KOWA
Party and establish it as a solid and attractive platform
of excellence for politicians of character and integrity.
Finally, many may not be aware, but the core support for
my campaign was provided by volunteers. Ordinary
people like me, who shared our message broadly in spite
of disbelief and even derision from some supporters of
some larger parties. To these ordinary people who saw
themselves in my candidacy and made sacrifices to
actualize our dream, I am greatly indebted and hereby
express my profound gratitude.
This is not the end. This is only the beginning. The power
to change Nigeria for good lies in all of us. While we
congratulate the incoming government on their victory at
the polls, we also remind them that something has
changed significantly about the Nigerian people at this
election, and that governments will from now on be held
to account. God bless you all, and God bless the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.
