Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto
Sokoto state deputy governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, on
Tuesday said the people of Sokoto will reciprocate the
gesture done to the Second Republic President, Alhaji
Shehu Shagari by the South South in 1979 by voting for
President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming general
elections.
Shagari made the remark on Tuesday, at a town hall
meeting organised by the Sokoto state chapter of the
Goodluck Support Group in Sokoto.
Shagari maintained that the people of South South gave the
NPN over one million votes which led to his father's victory
in the presidential elections in 1979.
According to him, it would amount to betrayal for the
people to reject Jonathan at this moment, saying no
amount of misinformation by the All Progressive Congress
would prevent Sokoto people from voting for Jonathan.
"March 28 is a pay-back time for us and the people of
Sokoto are ready to pay back the South South for the
gesture done to the former president by voting for
Jonathan.
"We cannot turn our backs on Jonathan now that he needs
the votes of the people of Sokoto and by God's grace he
will be re-elected," Shagari said.
He stated that the APC was desperate to get power and had
been using religion to create division among Northerners.
The deputy governor averred that the antics of the APC
would end up in vain, as the PDP will record landslide in
the forthcoming polls.
