Osun PDP, APC disagree over outcome of polls

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed
dissatisfaction with the result of the presidential election in
Osun State.
While announcing the result at the Independent National
Electoral Commission headquarters in Osogbo, Prof. Isaac
Azuzu, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Oye Ekiti
and the Osun State collating officer, had declared the All
Progressives Congress winner of the presidential poll.
The APC garnered a total of 383,603 votes from 28 out of
the 30 local government areas in the state to defeat the
PDP, which scored 249,929.
The number of registered and accredited voters respectively
was 1,378,113 and 683,169 while the respective number of
valid votes and rejected votes were 642,615 and 20,758.
Also, the total number of votes cast was 663,373 while
4,707 votes were cancelled in eight local government areas
in the state.
After the declaration of the results, the representatives of
the various parties signed the election result sheet.
However, the PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Bola
Ajao, said the party was not satisfied with the process and
result of the presidential election, stating that the process
was marred with violence in some parts of the state.
He said, “There are general perceptions and there are
personal perceptions. Starting with a personal perception, I
come from Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, Osun
State, where somebody was killed and many people were
injured due to desperation of the opposition.
“This frightened many people to shun the polling units. If
you look at that, you cannot say the election was free. We
are not satisfied with the result turned in, we are surprised.
As a party, we will sit down, review the entire process and
take the necessary actions. We will forward the result to the
party headquarters in Abuja.”
But Mr. Babatunde Adeosun, the APC representative at the
declaration of the result, said the party was satisfied with
the result.
“Going by the figures we have now, it is an improvement.
The margin between the APC and PDP has widened
tremendously; that is an indication that the people of this
state appreciate the government of the APC in the state. By
the introduction of the card reader, it made the election free,
fair and credible and we are happy with the result,” he said.
